Let's Play Another Story of Fallen Maidens, Part 2

I'm back with the second, longer installment of the translation / screenshot LP of the new MGE game. This one gets more into the meat of the game, as well as its core gimmick.

We rejoin Eristia and Yuri on a forest path. We have control for this segment, but there's only one way to go. I think it mostly exists to give you a chance to save your game.

At the end of the path are a flight of steps leading into the ruins (presumably the ones we heard about last time). As Eristia approaches the door, a strange voice speaks. It uses transparent gray text boxes across the center of the screen, rather than nearly opaque blue ones at the bottom like everyone else.

???: I have been waiting...

For you... For release...

Eristia: "Did you hear a voice just now?"

Yuri: "No, nothing..."

Eristia: "I suppose there really must be something in these ruins."

Eristia and Yuri enter the door. Inside they find a hall full of crumbling pillars, and an unfamiliar figure...

Succubus: "Oh my, what a surprise. Humans in such an out-of-the-way place..."

Succubus: "Are you eloping, by any chance?"

Succubus: "If you are, big sister will give you a thorough lesson... in what goes on between lovers♪"

Eristia: "So monsters have made their lairs here. I knew this wouldn't be as easy as it looked."

Yuri: "Lady Eristia..."

Eristia: "Stand back, Squire Yuri. I can handle a lone succubus on my own."

Yuri: "Understood. Please, be careful..."

Succubus: "Confident, aren't you? Perhaps you need a little discipline before our lesson."

Eristia: "I have no tongue to speak with unclean monsters. You'll just be more rust on my blade...!"

Eristia and the succubus square off. The succubus launches a black and purple cloud of mana...

But Eristia counters with a flash of light, dashing through the succubus with her sword. The animation on this sequence (and all the action scenes, really) is actually pretty good for these little sprites.

Succubus: "Wha...!?"

Eristia: "I told you I could handle you alone, didn't I? I'll thank you not to underestimate a Hero of the Order.

"If we hadn't been taken by surprise, and betrayed on top of that, even Lescatié wouldn't have..."

Succubus: "..."

Eristia: "Prepare yourself. My next strike will be the death of you."

Succubus: "Y, you're pretty good. I, I think I'll let you off here for today."

The succubus, obviously frightened, retreats to the top of the stairs, but Eristia pursues.

Eristia: "I won't let you get away. I'll eliminate all enemies of the Chief God and the Order...!"

When she passes between the pillars, however, a magic circle flashes around her, and she sinks to her knees.

Eristia: "Huh...?"

Eristia: "Wh, what is this...?"

Eristia: (What's going on? My whole body's as heavy as lead...

And... my mana's running dry...?)

Yuri: "Lady Eristia...!?"

Succubus: "I don't really get it, but..."

Succubus: "Is it safe to say the tables have turned? Tee hee hee. Lucky♪"

The succubus may not know what just happened to Eristia, but she's not going to miss her chance. She rushes down the stairs, only to be stopped by Yuri, who throws himself in the way, sword drawn. (There's a flash at this point, which is why the screenshot looks too bright.)

Yuri: "Eris...! Like I'd let you!"

Yuri: "Are you unharmed, Lady Eristia!? You don't seem yourself; it might be best to retreat for..."

Eristia: "Yuri... you..."

Eristia: "It's... not a problem. A Hero could never turn her back... on an unclean monster — an enemy of the Chief God."

Yuri: "You can't... That's too reckless!"

Eristia doesn't plan on backing down. At her insistence, Yuri reluctantly moves out of the way. She still plans on winning this.

Eristia: "Stand aside, Squire Yuri. I will slay that thing."

Succubus: "Oh, honestly. You're always making such a scary face, and saying such shocking things. That can spoil your looks, you know?"

Eristia: "Silence...!"

The succubus has other ideas, and launches another blast of mana.

With Yuri and Eristia paralyzed, the succubus descends the stairs and approaches Eristia.

An animated cut-in appears over the center of the screen. This is how this game handles sex scenes. The succubus is holding a mostly-naked Elisia, sitting on the ground with her legs spread.

And here we have the game's central gimmick — we see what happens when Eristia loses a fight without the usual eroge system of having to actually lose and then reload a save. Each corruption scene is followed by an encyclopedia page detailing Eristia's new form.

On Eristia's signal, the pair turn around and run deeper into the ruins, leaving a frustrated succubus guarding the door.

Succubus: "What the hell!? Is that any way for a Hero of justice to act!?"

Yuri and Eristia catch their breath in an inner hallway. What stops the succubus from going deeper into the ruins after them, we may never know. Her first lines seem to imply that she lives spends a lot of time here. Does she just enjoy standing in empty entrance halls?

Yuri: "Are you alright, Lady Eristia?"

Eristia: "Fine... I'd like to say. My physical and magical abilities... are all weakened. It seems like some kind of curse, although I'm not sure which."

Eristia: "To put it bluntly, right now I'm weaker than an average person. I don't know if I could win against one of the Order's regular soldiers, let alone that succubus..."

Yuri: "Getting out will be tough, then..."

Eristia: "Now it's come to this, there's only one way. We'll have to obtain the magic sword as planned, and use it to break the curse."

Yuri: "But there might be other monsters, and..."

Eristia: "Squire Yuri. Without my power as a Hero... I have no reason to exist.

"Otherwise... there's no excuse for a 'fruit of sin' like me to be alive."

Eristia: "There's no time to argue. We're continuing the investigation."

"I don't like it, but we'll have to avoid combat. Securing the magic sword is our ultimate priority. Any questions?"

Fade to a black screen. Eristia's internal monologue appears without a text box.

After seeing something like that, I don't feel comfortable looking him in the eye. That must have been why I cut off the conversation.

But I only stated the facts. I can't live any other way.

And yet... as soon as I said it, my heart hurt.

Fade back in on a new area, seemingly an overgrown inner courtyard of the ruins. The mysterious voice from the entrance returns with its unique text boxes.

???: The seed has been sown... You have passed...

Eristia: (The same voice as before...

I don't really understand, but... it says I passed. Does that mean I can keep going?)

Player control resumes here, but as before it's really just a short break to save your game. The next update will bring us another monster (or two) and possibly some more revelations. Look forward to it in a few days. As always, any feedback is appreciated.

As a side note, the mysterious voice at the end actually says that Eristia has "obtained a qualification," but that ended up being too cumbersome to keep entirely literal.
